Awaiting further guidance on Tier 5 lockdown

The original statement by the Federation of Holistic Therapies with regards to the provision of therapeutic massage during lockdown, of the 18th of March, has been updated on the 19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th of December, with further clarifications urging massage therapists in Tier 4 jurisdictions to exercise ‘extreme caution before seeing clients and to use their professional judgement as to whether they think it is safe and appropriate to provide treatments at this time’.

The fundamental principles espoused by the Federation of Holistic Therapies has been to limit provision of massage therapy to situations where the client has a genuine/medical health care need – for example is in pain, has mobility issues or severely impacted quality of life – and this can be evidenced in writing.

However, the Federation of Holistic Therapies has not yet released advice to members regarding the provision of urgently-required massage therapy within Tier 5. Whilst the wording of the Prime Minister’s statement is in line with prior statements regarding Tier 4, we are awaiting clear interpretation of the regulations by the Federation of Holistic Therapies prior to proceeding to provide urgently-required massage therapy.
